Does the world have enough picture books

Standard

Someone said to me on the weekend that the world has got enough picture books. I am still in shock and will need therapy to get over such an accusation, but what does everyone else think? I would love to have as much ammunition as possible to prove her wrong!

  1. Does she realize that picture books can be used all the way up though middle school (and possibly higher beyond taht), and that they cover nearly as many as adult literature?

Plus picture books are written and published each year that address current events, or that provide new perspectives on past events. Many picture books widen the breadth of knowledge about topics which otherwise are but a footnote in school texts.

This person obviously hasn’t seen the range of titles we call picture books. Please tell her that although we love The Cat in the Hat, Curious George, and Clifford, picture books are much more than those.
